​You will learn how to use writing as a practice of spirituality and as a process of achieving well-being. This is a space for women of all backgrounds to grow, connect, and rediscover meaning together. While journaling is our the primary aim, you can plan on reading and discussion of sacred texts, wisdom literature, and a wee bit of evocative poetry. Wisdom literature deals with the way the world works. In this way, we gain insight, resilience, well-being, and personal growth.

For those attending the reading club at Coeur d' Alene Library, this a companion group for our ongoing conversations in a private setting. You can count on weaving together with journaling the themes and motifs of Clarissa Pinkola Estés while exploring your spiritual roots and life journey.​

We use self-awareness activities, mindfulness practice and expressive writing. Kim E. Morgan will focus on the art of the humble journal. Journaling has long been proven to be an effective tool for organizing one’s thoughts, managing stress, sparking creativity, and aiding in overall well-being. 

Reference material comes from At a Journal Workshop: Writing to Access the Power of the Unconscious and Evoke Creative Ability by Ira Progoff. Dr. Ira Progoff has devoted his life to the exploration of new ways to encourage creativity and to enhance individual growth.

How do you bring mindfulness to personal writing?

I have meditated for over forty-five years. This is what I've learned. For me, personal fulfillment is found with journaling as a spiritual practice. It can lead to personal mastery. It is one of the most significant disciplines in my ongoing personal development. Also, I believe, well-being is a skill you can be learned using personal writing and daily mindfulness activities.​

It takes a while to find likeminded, kindhearted people you feel comfortable with. Kindness toward each other in a meeting is the recognition that we all struggle. It's a part of the human experience. Basically, we walking each other into remembrance on our way home together.

​How do you participate during Zoom events?

You don't have to be a writer to be practice mindfulness or engage in journaling. Just show up with curiosity and an open mind. Important! This is not a creative writers group or genre writing. This is a group for those who want to use writing as a spiritual practice to fulfill their creative potential. ​

Following a brief introduction, we cover a specific topic then share in 30-minute breakout sessions. We finish with a whole group discussion and a takeaway message. Important! You don't have to be a writer to practice mindfulness during the workshop.
